About OurAlgonquin

A free planning, trip-logging, and conditions update tool for backcountry canoe trips in Algonquin.

OurAlgonquin is a free planning and trip-logging tool for backcountry canoe trips in Algonquin Provincial Park. Pick lakes, chain portages, see distances and suggested nights, then come back afterward to log what actually happened. Even without a plan you can log past routes, campsites you stayed at, notes on the route, photos from the trip and share it publically or keep it private.

I built it because I love Algonquin and I feel like the community could use a centralized hub for trip logging, trip planning and staying up to date on site and portage conditions. I'm a software engineer with a love for the gonq and wanted to give back to the community!

There are no ads and no costs. You can use the site signed out for browsing but logging in is required to post and save routes. The map data comes from OpenStreetMap (community-edited, free) so I apologize for any inaccuracies. If you want to report issues with the map data (or the site itself) please visit the report tab, feedback is much appreciated! Finally, this site is a solo project and is bound to have some issues in the begining so please bear with me as I figure those out!

How to use it

  1. 1. Browse

Click any lake, campsite, or portage on the map to see details and what other people said about it on their public trip logs.

  2. 2. Plan a trip

Pick a starting access point, then click the lakes you want to visit in order. The tool shows total paddling + portaging distance and suggests how many nights you'll need. Save the plan to come back later or share with friends.

  3. 3. Log a trip

After you get back, retrace your route by clicking lakes and campsites. Add nights, notes, and photos. Mark the log public and it'll help the next person planning the same route.

If you like it, share it

The site gets more useful the more trip logs land on it. If a friend is planning their first Algonquin trip (or their tenth) send them here. Public logs from real trips beat anything I could write from scratch.
